The Dresden Files: Boston
Charlestown was its own city before Boston annexed it in the 19th century. It brought with it Bunker Hill, some lovely Victorian architecture, and the Charlestown Ship Yard. Boston may have reconsidered annexation had it known the true significance of this little spit of land.
Somehow, on dates unknown, the Summer and Winter fairy courts absorbed virtually all the powers and functions of the Spring and Autumn courts. Nevertheless, both courts survive as rumps lest the seasons cease to change. Those not part of either court normally pretend that neither existed to begin with.
For some reason, the Summer and Winter queens essentially imprisoned their Spring and Autumn friends in Charlestown, of all places. Only their knights and changelings can go forth, a source of chronic fairy envy that’s helped make life for all in Charlestown unsettling.
